Why does Mickey (the kitten) look like this?

my male and and female cat (we half own the female looong story) they had a kitten and Mickey (the kitten) is all black with a little white. why is he black,i mean the only black is his mother's stripes... he's a month and a couuple weeks old almost 2 months
