My male fathead minnow is beefy, with his tubricles and vertical stripes, but hasn't mated, how long it takes,?

How long should it be til a male mates from the point of getting his tubercles, and dark color with vertical stripes and "fathead", because he has all that but hasn't mated, there is plenty of mating ground/territory, and he won't let any fish near his territory
