An easy to take care of small pet thats cheap n is low maintenance?

me n my best friend are planning on getting a pet cuz this year is our last year :( .... so whats a good pet other than a fish...we were thinking of a hermit crab...like those kinds of pets..nothing like a dog or cat or some damn rodent? thank you :) mwah
